Claimed To Be Prophet?? Freed...

Ashaari Muhammad, the leader of Al Arqam who had been detained under the close supervision finally had been released two days ago. This was reported by the News Straits Times. However I noticed there was a false statement in the report which stated:

He (Ashaari) claimed that he was a prophet and predicted that he would be the Prime Minister after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

As far as the truth is concern, this statement is definitely untrue, as Ashaari never claimed himself as a prophet. Instead, he and his followers follows the path that prophet Muhammed had taught (ahli sunnah wal jama'ah) , which is: Muhammed is the last messenger of god, and there would be no prophet after Muhammed.

All Ashaari had done was to lead his followers towards a reformed ummah. Reformed ummah means an ummah which is to be transformed from bad to good. As we can see in today's Muslim world, Muslims are confused. The bad influence from the west to the Muslim lifestyle, terrorists who claimed themselves as Muslim mujahideen and so on. So Ashaari wanted to correct the wrong. And so he was called as the reformer (mujaddid) by his followers, for reforming the ummah. The reformer... Not a prophet!

While for the prediction to be a Prime Minister after Tun Dr Mahathir, I do not see this as anything againts the Islamic teaching. Predictions are made. People write about them. i.e- political issues, economic ups and down and so on.. all of them could be predicted and there is nothing wrong with them. All that counts is whether or not the predictions are accurate.

Those who read books on the political issues or economic world, should be familiar with these kind of predictions. Aurthors predicting what would happen based on what they had analysed...

Prediction to be a Prime Minister after Tun Dr Mahathir is not the same as prediction to be the Prime Minister immediately after Dr Mahathir steps down. Instead, it may also be the 5th, 6th, 7th or so priminister, as all of them are AFTER Tun Dr Mahathir. Lets just wait and see.
